Te Piataata and Ranui-Swanson Lions are coming together to host Project Twin Streams Ranui-Massey’s first community planting event of the year at Birdword Park, Jacinta Grove, Ranui on Saturday 6 June.

The event, which runs from 10am to 1pm, is taking place on a site which both groups have worked hard to prepare over the summer months. The joint hosting of the Matariki planting is another example of these two groups working together.

Neil (the Eel man) Henderson will be introducing attendees to the fascinating world of eels. Oki Doki the clown will be providing the laughs and Yuki Kamiya, from Sustainable Homes/Sustainable Living project will be showing people some simple ways to reduce their impact on the earth and giving away free light bulbs.

There will be live music from Cat Tunks to keep everyone going towards the target of 1600 plants in the ground and two Matariki themed art activities for the smaller people to get stuck into.

Clair Hobi, Project Twin Streams Ranui Massey Community Coordinator said ““Planting during Matariki is significant as it is a time to prepare, to share ideas, to remember the past and to celebrate the future”.
